Protect. Just as UVA and UVB rays can damage our skin, they also harm our hair. Use a spray-on sunscreen for hair or apply a bit of sunblock on palms and rub onto scalp.Condition. Using a deep conditioner once a week will help restore smoothness and moisture to dried-out hair. Go natural. Less styling means less stress on the hair

Ok, it's time to get some color! I've tried a few of the popular brands, pictures of my color to come :)Jergen's Daily Glow Moisturizer $4.99altOriginal product for tanning plus moisturizer in one! Works great actually, the only setback is the fragrance. The tan builds gradually as it claims! Jergen's Express Daily Moisturizer $6.99altI would like to like this express version, but for some reason I developed a yellow tint and my friend developed an orange one. Fragrance is better than the daily version.Aveeno Custom Color Daily Moisturizer $7.99altThis version you can turn the dial to go from light to darker in seconds. This one worked ok, slightly yellow, but I didn't care for the smell.Loreal Sublime Daily Glow $6.99altThis one is as good as the Jergen's daily formula, but with added shimmer. It smells better, but my skin had a reaction to the sparkling ingredients.

Understanding your skin type is essential to any skincare regimen. Keep in mind that due to weather, hormones, and other changes your skin changes as well.

Oily Skin
Using harsh cleansers and applying products with alcohol to strip away the shine, can result in a temporary oil free matte finish effect.

- Use a PH balanced toner or a regular cleanser.
- Continue to moisturize with an oil free moisturizer
- Try an oil free or matte finish foundation.
- Avoid eye shadows that are overly dewy or contain too many shimmers
- Apply loose face powder to set foundation and keep it in place.
- Along with applying foundation, use an anti-shine product available in gel tube or a container, which can be applied before or after foundation. An anti-shine can also be applied along your hair line and on your scalp to absorb oil. It is colorless, goes on wet and dries up. Think of it as a type of antiperspirant for your face.
- Thin out your foundation by moistening a makeup sponge with water, patting it dry and then applying foundation.

Combination Skin
Skin tends to be oilier in the T-zone (the area across our forehead and down the nose to your chin) and dry around the edges. Whether you have dry or oily skin most of the time, you should moisturize around the eyes and lips to prevent crows feet (wrinkles) from developing.

- Use gentle cleanser.
- Applying Primer underneath your foundation will prepare your skin for a smooth application and help your makeup stay on all day long.
- Try cream or liquid foundation.

Sensitive Skin
Any allergic reaction - itchy, redness, bumps most likely indicates you have sensitive skin.
- Look for hypoallergenic and non - comedogenic products
- Avoid products containing fragrance, live plant extract, lanolin or alcohol.
- “Fragrance Free” does not mean allergen or chemical free. Check the label.
- It is important to consider your skin type. If you have dry skin you should avoid oil absorbing makeup, which will give your skin a parched, flaky finish. For those with oily skin, avoid moisturizing makeup that will make skin look slick and greasy. Normal skin types should stick with a makeup formulated for normal skin.

Bare Escentuals has a great new lip plumper gloss - Buxom Lips. It comes in a variety of shades, and the plumping action works with a cool tingle (instead of the old school heat-swelling feel). Also, it doesn't taste bad either!

Although I haven't figured out exactly why, I still agree the Shu Uemura eyelash curler is the best one out there.

The solid metal construction along with the firm grip pads, combined with the ergonomic handle and fit help the lashes curl instantly. For $18, this is worth the investment!

Check these low cost, dual purpose products out!

-Toothpaste (white) can help heal acne breakouts

- Neosporin can help remove and heal acne overnight

- Eye Drops remove redness not only from your eyes but also from red blemishes. To shrink swelling, freeze a drop on a spoon, place frozen over blemish and hold

- Clay Masks will draw out black heads that tend to gather around the nose, by dehydrating the top layer of skin

- Cuticle scissors work well to trim tiny nose hairs

- Use your fingers as a trusted tool. The heat in your fingers will help melt a thick concealer into place (especially under the eyes). You can blend cream blushes, apply lip balm or gloss on lips. Don’t forget to wash your hands when going from one application/color to another.

Recently at an event at Nordstrom, I had my makeup done by a makeup artist from Laura Mercier. Here's what I ended up buying nearly $200 later!

To get your cheekbones to stand out, apply blush at the apples of the cheek and sweep out and up. Then add a little bit of shimmer, like Laura Mercier 'Pink Mosaic' Shimmer Bloc. Put some on the top of the cheeks -between the upper cheekbone and eyes - and it'll make your cheekbones pop in pictures.
alt
Moving on to the eyes, they told me an eye opening trick was to put eyeliner on the inside of the upper lid (not the outside). Using a superfine, strong brush they applied the liner in black - which is claimed to be smudgeproof:

The makeup artist then dusted and blended the new mineral shimmer powder on the eyelid. Again, sometimes lighter is better to open up the eyes.

Finally my look was finished with a dusting of shimmer powder (which I love). The little specs reflect light and give you a sparkly glow :)

Approximately $2 Million of Potentially Harmful "Cosmetic" Eye Product SeizedProduct contains drug ingredient, makes unapproved drug claims, could damage eyeAt the request of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Marshals seized today 12,682 applicator tubes of Age Intervention Eyelash, a product that may, in some users, lead to decreased vision. Authorities said the sales value of the seized tubes is approximately $2 million.Age Intervention Eyelash is sold and distributed by Jan Marini Skin Research, Inc., of San Jose, Calif. The FDA considers Age Intervention Eyelash to be an unapproved and misbranded drug because Jan Marini Skin Research has promoted the product to increase eyelash growth. Before a new drug product may be legally marketed, it must be shown to be safe and effective, and approved by FDA. The agency takes seriously its responsibility to protect Americans from unapproved drugs.FDA also considers the seized Age Intervention Eyelash to be an adulterated cosmetic. The product contains bimatoprost, an active ingredient in an FDA-approved drug to treat elevated intraocular pressure (elevated pressure inside the eye). For patients using the prescription drug, using the Age Intervention Eyelash in addition to the drug may increase the risk of optic nerve damage because the extra dose of bimatoprost may decrease the prescription drug's effectiveness. Damage to the optic nerve may lead to decreased vision and possibly blindness. In addition, use of Age Intervention Eyelash may cause other adverse effects in certain people due to the bimatoprost, including macular edema (swelling of the retina) and uveitis (inflammation in the eye), which may lead to decreased vision. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California filed the complaint requesting the seizure, and coordinated with the FDA. The California Department of Public Health‘s Food and Drug Branch had previously embargoed the seized products at the San Jose facility. Jan Marini Skin Research has notified FDA that the company ceased manufacturing and shipping any Age Intervention Eyelash product containing bimatoprost last year. The FDA recommends that consumers, dermatologists, and estheticians who may still have Age Intervention Eyelash discontinue using it and discard any remaining product. FDA also recommends that consumers consult their health care provider if they have experienced any adverse events that they suspect are related to the product's use.Source: http://www.fda.gov/
